Man Mud – Cosmetics
This was produced to illustrate 4 products in different settings. Every photo session has a level of creativity. It comes in different angles, lighting, arrangements. Many photos are industry standard representation. Creative shots make a product memorable. A good combination will carry your product of the shelves.
Recycle, Reuse, Reduce
As simple as it looks, there’s a considerable amount of effort behind these photos. The bags have to be cleaned, steamed, propped, filled, pinned and so forth. It’s a polished look that moves product of the shelf.
Personal Protective Equipment
There’s no better way to illustrate product than to show it in action. I’d say, if you had a single photo’s budget, this is what you should go for. With a bit of careful staging, and just a touch editing, your product will show in all it’s glory, at its best. Et voila !
Weighted Comforter, Lifestyle and Studio
This project hits all the major points of product photography done right. Studio photos show a neutral look of the weighted blanket while the lifestyle shows possible and probable uses. They complement each other. If in studio you may not be able to tell the relative dimensions or the general feel, lifestyle does exactly that.
Board Game
What makes this project different is the higher number of components in the set, my best guestimate is 200. When doing a creative session with so many elements it’s hard to predict what would work and it’s hard to ask the client what would you like. There’s could be some general directions but in the end you have to trust your photographer for the placement, formations, composition. Styling take much longer and it takes a keen eye to catch those little out of place cards. Also this makes it much harder to do revisions. Not complaining but editing is also proportionally more complex. At the time I write this I’ve already surpassed this project in complexity. These embroidery threads were quite a bit more difficult to position and edit than the board game pieces. Philux Photo accepts any challenge !

Compounds
I wish I could say taking photos of buckets is really easy, but it isn’t and editing is always part of the job. This is one of those projects that take you by surprise. It seams easy but when you get down to the nitty-gritty of it, there’s plenty of surprises. Undesired reflections pop out of nowhere, highlights and glare misbehave and shadows don’t look quite right. Once you find a formula, things tend to ease up a little and new buckets go smoothly but there’s always one pail full of mischief.
